About Course
You cannot pour from an empty cup.
Presented in a light-hearted, direct style, the purpose of this course is to share the information on mindfulness, and then for you to decide for yourself how you want to use it in your life.
In a hospital, clinic, or school setting, you get lots of welcome (or unwelcome ) mini-breaks throughout the day.
As an online SLP, it could be the situation that the only other people you interact with during the day in person are your immediate family or friends; or you spend the majority of it enclosed in your office in front of a screen.
Knowing how to use techniques such as mindfulness to help you with mini-breaks, and reframing will ensure that whenever your next client switches on their device to see you, you are able to give it your all - without draining yourself. BUT - there are no rules or suggestions here, it is just presenting the information non-judgementally, and it is up to you to pick what you feel will work for you in your own individual situation.
Warning. This course also gives you the awareness to recognise when someone is trying to use mindfulness in an unethical way. For SLPs, this can sometimes be as gaslighting into taking heavy caseloads, or to see students virtually which you would be uncomfortable with. It will give you suggestions to discuss. Combine with the Conflict Resolution and Knowing your Value as a Tele-therapist, to better advocate for yourself and your clients.
It will give you an understanding of what mindfulness is, and how you use it.
So you can use mindfulness yourself.
So you can teach others.
